Flooring Services FAQs

Choosing the right flooring is a major decision that impacts the look, feel, and value of your property for years to come. At Property Support Services, we know you likely have questions about durability, installation time, and maintenance. We have gathered the most common inquiries from our St. Louis clients to help you navigate your options and feel confident in your flooring investment.

How long does hardwood refinishing take?

Typically, a standard refinishing job takes 3–5 days. This allows time for sanding, staining, and applying multiple coats of polyurethane, with drying time in between. You cannot walk on the floors during the final drying phase.

In most cases, yes. We recommend LVP (Luxury Vinyl Plank) because it is waterproof, whereas laminate can swell if exposed to water. LVP is ideal for kitchens, basements, and rentals.

We ask that you clear small items, breakables, and electronics. For larger furniture (couches, tables), we can discuss moving them as part of the bid, though refinishing projects often require the room to be completely empty.

We do our best to match species (e.g., Red Oak vs. White Oak) and stain color. However, because wood ages and changes color over sunlight exposure, a 100% perfect match isn’t always possible, but we get very close.

We are flexible. We can purchase high-quality flooring for you through our suppliers, often passing on trade options, or we can install flooring you have purchased yourself.

Not always. We can often carefully remove and re-install existing baseboards. However, adding “quarter round” or “shoe molding” is a common way to cover the expansion gap without replacing the full baseboard.
